He transferred from the RCA to the RCAF in 1939. Promoted Sergeant and gaining his Pilot Wings in October 1941. Embarks for England November 1941. Posted to Middle East August 1942. Flies operational missions out of Egypt and later Malta bombing Tobruk, Tripoli, Tunis and other targets in Libya, Tunisia and Sicily. Promoted to Flight Sergeant January 1943. May 1943 becomes test pilot out of Egypt and later Aden. Promoted to Pilot Officer December 1943 and finally Flying Officer April 1944. Returns to Canada January 1945.
