His Sterling is officially noted as coming down off the coast of Dieppe, with all the crew killed. It is believed his aircraft was intercepted by a night fighter flown by Hptm Karl-Hans Godbersen of E./NJG2, who claimed to have shot down a Stirling which fell into the sea west of Schouwenas.
